Panchayat Raj Engineering Department (PRED) was formed during the year 1967 by the State Government. It functions under the Ministry of Panchayat Raj & Rural Development and at State level Secretary to Government (PR & RD) as its administrative head and Engineer-in-Chief as its technical head.

After formation of Telangana state in the year 2014, The PR department has been reorganized during the year 2023 with the following offices across the State in order to accomplish the organizational objectives.

PR Offices were expanded at various levels in the organization for execution and maintenance of works.

• PRED head office @ State level headed by Engineer-in-Chief (PR)
• 4 Territorial office @ Territorial level headed by Chief Engineer with jurisdiction of 4 or 5 respective regions
• 17 PR Circle/ Region office @ Regional Level headed by Superintending Engineer with a jurisdiction of 2 to 4 divisions
• 43 Division office at PR division level headed by Executive Engineer/DPRE with a jurisdiction of 2 to 4 sun divisions
• 204 Sub-Division Offices headed by Deputy Executive Engineer

Vigilance & Quality control offices were expanded at various levels in the organization to ensure the quality.

• 4 V&QC Circle/Region office@ Regional Level headed by Superintending Engineer with jurisdiction of 2 VQC divisions
• 8 V& QC Divisions headed by Executive Engineer with jurisdiction of 5 to 7 VQC Sub divisions
• 43 VQC Sub-Division Offices headed by Deputy Executive Engineer
